I’ve been playing around with digital illustration thanks to a rather nifty new PhotoShop brush that replicates inking onto watercolour paper. While I was doing things digitally, I thought I’d have a crack at making one of those wobbly 3D images. I think it’s come out okay and may be introduced into some upcoming comics. Tali vs the Matrix anyone?!
Happy pancake day! It’s an old joke yes but still quite relevant if, like me, you’re a messy cooker and have a cat who enjoys hanging out in the kitchen while you’re creating said mess.
We’ve all been there, when you enter a room and a foreign scent meets our nostrils. We want to believe it’s just our imagination, or that left over smell from some spicy food. But it isn’t. And it’s often in the most annoying of places.
The weather may be warming up but there’s still a while to go before we’re in t-shirts and Tali has found the perfect way to stay warm, though it is something most of us generally do anyway. She’s a bit slow, bless her.
Of course I didn’t really forget Valentine’s day but the sentiment remains true - what better gift is there than the love from a cat?…Don’t think about it too long though, because you’ll probably be able to name quite a few things…(love you really Tali!)
It’s cold, it’s dry and any source of water appears to be frozen at the moment. So a walking ball of fluff attracts a lot of static electricity and fussing that ball of fluff results in a sudden discharge of said electricity. Tali’s like her own little power station at the moment!
We finally had some snow over the weekend and while it didn’t really phase Tali too much it did remind me of one of my previous cats, Suzy and one of her adventures in the snow.
On Wednesday, I, like a lot of other eager drawing folk, took a moment out of every waking hour to make a mini comic about what I’d done in said hour. As you’d imagine, a lot of those hours involved Tali somehow. I’ve coloured a few of them to give you an example of my day (I plan to colour all of them soon…) The full black and white version can be found by visiting the Ten Cent Ticker forum and I highly recommend having a look at some of the other artists too as there are some fantastic hourly comics to be found.
Who comes first, your partner or your pet? In the latest issue of The Cat magazine that I’m currently working on, regular contributor John Walker writes about his recent marriage and how his wife now has to figure out the hierarchy of the house in which his cat, Dexter, is always on top. I’m rather chuffed with how the illustration came out, particularly the smug look on Dexter’s face.
Monday is never a popular day of the week and not too long ago was the dreaded blue Monday where all the lavish spending from the previous months suddenly becomes frighteningly clear in the form of bills. Tali however had a brilliant solution to my particular problem.
With Monday being the start of the Chinese New Year, it’s now the Scots’ turn to party, celebrating the birth of their famous poet, Robert (Rabbie) Burns. He may not have written many poems featuring cats but in Willie Wastle, Burns suggested an elegance to a cat cleaning herself. An elegance that Tali could do with…
To all who celebrate it, happy Chinese New Year!
Wow! Just the other day the Eat, Sleep, Sniff Facebook page received its 1,000th Like! I’m flattered and chuffed that so many people enjoy my doodled cat diaries and as a thank you to all you good readers, I’m having a give away to celebrate. All you need to do is comment on the last post called Competition on the Facebook page and you could win any three items from my shop. The winner will be picked at random on January 27th.
Thanks again for all the support so far and look forward to even more Eat, Sleep, Sniff!
Tali certainly isn’t the loudest cat in the world but recently she has been rather vocal. Thing is, she starts of quiet, building up and up until she produces a volume surprising for such a little cat.
What with today being Friday 13th and all I thought a good candidate for my What If? cats would be Jason Voorhees, star of dodgy horror B-movies. The difference with my version of Jason is that if I saw him coming towards me, I’d probably be overcome with cuteness rather than fear.
