We’ve all been there, when you enter a room and a foreign scent meets our nostrils. We want to believe it’s just our imagination, or that left over smell from some spicy food. But it isn’t. And it’s often in the most annoying of places.

It’s cold, it’s dry and any source of water appears to be frozen at the moment. So a walking ball of fluff attracts a lot of static electricity and fussing that ball of fluff results in a sudden discharge of said electricity. Tali’s like her own little power station at the moment!

We finally had some snow over the weekend and while it didn’t really phase Tali too much it did remind me of one of my previous cats, Suzy and one of her adventures in the snow.

Monday is never a popular day of the week and not too long ago was the dreaded blue Monday where all the lavish spending from the previous months suddenly becomes frighteningly clear in the form of bills. Tali however had a brilliant solution to my particular problem.

With Monday being the start of the Chinese New Year, it’s now the Scots’ turn to party, celebrating the birth of their famous poet, Robert (Rabbie) Burns. He may not have written many poems featuring cats but in Willie Wastle, Burns suggested an elegance to a cat cleaning herself. An elegance that Tali could do with…

To all who celebrate it, happy Chinese New Year!

Tali certainly isn’t the loudest cat in the world but recently she has been rather vocal. Thing is, she starts of quiet, building up and up until she produces a volume surprising for such a little cat.

I don’t often nap on the sofa. If so, it’s usually unplanned and happens in the middle of a TV program with Tali already curled up on my lap. But there are those times when she’s been elsewhere, wants to benefit from my body warmth and thinks jumping on me is the best way to do this. Well Tali, it isn’t!

I know it’s difficult to tell considering Tali spends most of her day sleeping but I’m sure the groggy weather at the start of the year caused Tali’s naps to be longer than ever. I think if she could sleep until June she probably would.

We were given a Santa costume for Tali after a friend no longer had use for it and immediately I thought she wouldn’t go for it. And she didn’t. Weirdly thought I don’t think it was anything to do with it being kitty clothing as she often wraps herself in blankets (expect a future comic about that!) and the like. I think Tali just likes to be the one who receives the gifts rather than hand them out. Speaking of Christmas gifts, they’ll be something special happening from Christmas day onwards here on Eat, Sleep, Sniff so keep an eye out for that…

Cats love boxes. It’s not secret yet we still buy them all these fancy beds and hideouts which are nearly always ignored in favour of the boxes they came in!

Be careful what you put on your Christmas tree. Back when I was living at home, sporting long hair and happily fitting within the twenty-something age group, we had a cat called Mogwai who we discovered had a taste for tinsel sting. We only found out when bits started going missing and he suddenly had an extra tail…

Last weekend we began putting up the Christmas decorations (well, less of the ‘we’…) and like a lot of people, they’re generally stored in old cardboard boxes for eleven months of the year. And you know what boxes mean for a cat don’t you? A place to hide, explore and indeed make a general nuisance of themselves!

The past week, Tali has been determined to sit on me. She’s neglecting all her favourite spots for sleeping and is adamant that my torso is where her bed should be. That would normally be fine if I wasn’t all bandaged up! Now I’ve read that pets have healing qualities about them but not if the area healing would get trampled. Have any of your pets ever helped heal you?

In all fairness to her, I’ve only ever seen Tali do this the once and it was actually quite funny but still does subtract a little from her cuteness. This comic was partly based on a project I’ve been heavily working on recently, some of which I’ll post in a couple of days - stay tuned!
